HSIAO-MEI (HEIDI) LU, PH.D.
VP, Bioinformatics & Computational Biology
Dr. Lu received her Ph.D in Bioinformatics from University of Illinois at Chicago, and continued her postdoctoral research in the Department of Mathematics and Center for Complex Biological Systems, University of California, Irvine.
Dr. Lu is an active scientist in human genetics, machine learning, data mining, and mathematical modeling. In 2011, Dr. Lu joined Ambry Genetics and successfully built clinical bioinformatics pipelines for whole exome sequencing and clinical diagnostics in hereditary and somatic cancer, cardiological and neurological diseases. She leads a team of scientists, statistical geneticists, and computational biologists and has developed numerous computational tools and conducted clinical research projects.

Dr. Hsieh is passionate to develop precision diagnostics tools to improve human’s health in the past 20 years. He founded Genpedia, which endeavors to develop benchtop robotic system with assay for sample prep of liquid biopsy.
He has multidisciplinary practical experience in developing biomedical devices, such as endoscopic OCT for GI track tumor (Beckman Laser Institute), Digital PCR biochip (ITRI), sample-to-answer biochip (GenMark), automation system for sample preparation of NGS (Invitrogen/Life Technologies, Illumina), and Hemostasis analysis biochip, etc.
He has also worked as a salesman/customer engineer in marketing department of electronics and semiconductor companies, as well as a R&D Engineer in Micro System Lab of Industrial Technology Research institute while he was in Taiwan. Dr. Hsieh received his doctoral degree in engineering from UC Irvine, master’s degree from Chemical Engineering and Material Science Dept. of USC.

Stan Yang, Ph.D
Dr. Stan Yang has 36 years experience in the field of implantable devices, including 16 years in intraocular lenses, and 20 years in tissue regeneration materials. He has led projects from conception, to regulatory approval, production and commercialization.
He is the key inventor of 23 patents, including 20 patents in the field of IOL, and 2 patents in tissue regeneration. Dr. Stan Yang is the founder of Unicare Biomedical, Inc. (www.unicarebiomedical.com), which manufactures and distributes tissue regeneration products for dental and orthoepedic applications.
Dr. Yang received his EMBA from University of California, Irvine and PhD degree in polymer science from University of Akron, Ohio.

Antonio Lamb, CEO and co-founder of MicroSynbiotiX

Antonio is a plant molecular biologist and entrepreneur. He graduated from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 2015, where he studied computational biology and molecular biology. He is a cofounder of MicroSynbiotiX, an award-winning algal synthetic biology startup that is developing microalgae as a new drug delivery platform for the aquatic animal health industry. Since founding MicroSynbiotiX, Antonio has raised more than 1 million dollars in venture funding for the company and has won numerous awards and grants for the business. Antonio’s interests also include exploring ways to make science more accessible to the public and is an advocate for citizen science.

Christina Yang, Ph.D., CQA, RAC
Christina owns over thirty years of experience in R&D, Operations, Quality Systems, Regulatory Affairs, Clinical Affairs, Quality Engineering, and Quality Control. She joined BioLegend in January of 2019 as the Sr. VP of Quality, Regulatory Affairs, and Compliance. Prior to this, she served as Sr. VP of Quality and Regulatory Affairs in Vyaire Medical since 2017 and was the VP of Global Regulatory Affairs in Beckman Coulter (an affiliate of Danaher Corp) since 2013. From 2007 to 2013, Christian served as Sr. VP of Regulatory Affairs and Quality in Hologic/Gen-Probe. From 1995 to 2007, she was the VP of Quality and Regulatory Affairs of Focus Diagnostics (owned by Quest Diagnostics). From 1987 to 1995, she served in quality control, biochemistry and allergy, and organic chemistry management positions at Diagnostic Products Corporation in Los Angeles.

Christina held a B.S. in Biology from National Taiwan Normal University, Taipei, Taiwan, and received a Ph.D. in Zoology with focus on Molecular Biology from Iowa State University, Iowa.

Christina is a Regulatory Affairs Certified (RAC), an ISO9000 certified lead auditor and a Certified Quality Auditor (CQA). She has been very active in various events including mentoring young leaders and serves as the speaker in numerous international Quality and Regulatory Conferences. In 2015 and 2016, she was the chief instructor for cGMP and quality audit training hosted by CFDA (now NMPA) in Beijing

SoCal TBA 2019 kickoff networking event! Come and join us for a conversation with Dr. Nicole Weng about her career trajectory and her current role as a clinical development scientist.

Nicole Weng is passionate about brining innovative and quality medical devices that improve patient outcomes from bench to bedside. As a clinical development scientist at Philips, her main responsibility includes designing preclinical and clinical study, developing the clinical development plan, clinical evaluation plan and report, and supporting regulatory submission activities in US, EU and China. Before joining Philips, she was a clinical affairs research scientist at REVA Medical developing bioresorbable cardiovascular scaffold. Her efforts at REVA successfully led to Fantom® scaffold CE Marking and a publication of the clinical study in JACC. Nicole received her master degree in veterinary medicine from National Taiwan University and her doctorate degree in pharmacognosy and biochemistry from Ohio State University.
